I warmly welcome you to Westminster Cathedral RC Primary School, Bessborough Place, SW1V 3SE. It is an honour and a privilege to lead an aspirational, child centred school in such a wonderful location within Westminster.
The school is situated next to Pimlico Tube Station which serves the Victoria Line and five minutes from Vauxhall Bridge. We are situated in a quiet, residential corner of Pimlico which means the school is surrounded by trees and greenery.
We are a one form entry Catholic Primary School serving pupils aged 4-11, Reception to Year 6.
We have one class per year group which allows us to be a strong community and treat each child and their families as individuals. We maintain our child centered approach to education following our mission statement, “To love one another as I have loved you.” John 13:34.
Our Mission statement is at the heart of all we do as we teach the children to achieve their personal best; respect each other, the school, their local community and the world we live in. We teach them the importance of valuing friendship and seeking joy in all they do. It is our mission for each child to be educated to reach their fullest potential in a truly Catholic community and prepare them for the next stage of their education career.
We were graded GOOD by Ofsted in February 2017. The school was inspected by the Diocese of Westminster October 2018 and the judgement was GOOD with an outstanding feature. It stated that "Teaching staff have high expectations of learners and plan with a wide range of individual learning needs in mind…Teaching and support staff create a warm and affirming environment for learners which impacts positively on learning and contributes to pupils' wellbeing."
"The school's partnership arrangements have been a key focus for the school and as a result they are now outstanding. Strong links have been forged with parents, the local parish, diocese and other Catholic and community schools.” Diocese Inspection October 2018.
Since becoming headteacher in September 2016, the school has made good, strong academic progress. The value added (progress made between the end of KS1 and KS2) demonstrates that as a school we are currently in the 60th to 75th centile of all schools nationally.
We believe in an enriched curriculum. In addition to the broad and balanced curriculum the school offers many enrichment opportunities such as individual music lessons where pupils can take Royal Academy of Music exams. We offer singing lessons, sporting opportunities including swimming. We have specialist teaching in Spanish, PE and ICT and we offer Chess as part of the school curriculum. As a school we make the most of the opportunities available to us by visiting many museums and exhibitions in London. We work with local charities and work places to help us provide the enrichment opportunities for all our pupils. We have a breakfast club from 8am and we offer wrap around till 6pm.
