In association with Westminster Archives and the MOD Theatre company, Year 6 performed a play at the Abbey Centre
Thursday 13th December, Year 6 performed an amazing play at the Abbey Centre in Westminster. The play was based on Monty Daniels a soldier who fought in World War 1. The play was the concluding part of the WW1 and suffragettes project they have learnt this term. The children performed so well, I was amazed they were able to learn the words and performed perfectly all their lines, the monologues and the songs. They had great direction and enthusiasm which really helped.
I was touched with the message the children gave. It was very powerful the history the children were teaching us. It amazes me how children of the 21st Century can re-enact the history of over 100 years ago so touchingly. The children will remember this history and hopefully pass on to future generations all they have learnt. Through the workshops, the interactive lessons, the trips, the preparation of the play and the actual performance - the children are living the history and will clearly remember all they have learnt.
These experiences have given them many writing opportunities which I hope to be able to share with you. Through living the history and having an empathetic viewpoint of the past the children will be able to transfer this into their writing.
