National Schools Chess Competition
Last Sunday 1st March two chess teams took part in the National Schools Chess Competition at Westminster Under School.
Each team had five rounds and competed against a number of schools including Westminster Under School, Wimbledon Prep and St Josephs. Both teams played really well and were challenged in their game. We are pleased to announce that the Under 9 team came third place receiving bronze medals and qualifying for the next round—we are really proud of their achievements. Congratulations to Marcus, Archie, Kieran, Harry, Senay and Leo—the Under 9 team and to Edward, Frederick, Aaron, Santiago, Edward, Alexandra and Daniella for the under 11 team. Our chess coach on the day was James Carrigan, he kindly wrote an email saying, “What a result! U9 team qualified happy days, with two matches against the best team that was a tough draw to qualify against. It was an absolute joy to coach the team on Sunday. The children were impeccably
behaved and showed real chess acumen and sportsmanship.”
