EDUCATIONAL VISITS
We
believe that we should take full advantage of the rich
environment surrounding our school. Educational visits are
encouraged. These are arranged at the discretion of the
class teachers and are always an integral part of the
curriculum. Much preparatory and follow up work is done.
Every year a residential school journey
or an activities week is organised for our Year 6 pupils.
Planning for such visits would take into
account provision for the disabled.
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS
Throughout the year, Sports Clubs are run
after school for Year 6. In the Autumn/Spring Football and
Netball clubs are held, in the Spring/Summer, Hockey,
Rounders, Tag Rugby and Athletics.
During the year a range of other clubs
are held for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children. These
are; Fencing, Drama, Dance, Newspaper Club, Yoga, ICT, Choir
and Art. A French Club is run
after school for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.
The Portuguese Embassy provides
Portuguese lessons for Portuguese pupils attending the
school. For more information
about After School Clubs, please make enquiries at the
school office. CHARGES FOR
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES The
Governing Body reserves the right to make a charge in the
following circumstances for activities organised by the
school
- school journeys within school
hours
- activities outside school hours
where costs arise
- damage or loss of equipment by a
pupil.
Voluntary contributions will be
sought for activities during school time e.g. travel
costs when taking part in educational visits and
entrance fees to museums, castles, galleries, theatres
and concerts. When your
child is involved in these activities for which we ask
for voluntary contributions you will receive information
from the teacher who is organising the activity.
If you are not able to make such a
contribution please inform the headteacher in
confidence. Your child will not be excluded.
Educational visits are an important
and integral part of the curriculum. However, it is not
possible for school funds to support these activities.
If we do not get sufficient contributions from parents
it may not be possible to proceed with the planned
activity. Children's
comments about the After School School Clubs that take place
in our school:
Drama
Club
"In the Drama Club we learnt about the different
styles and movements of Acting. We met every
Wednesday for an hour class to learn a best
selling play, which we performed to an audience
at the end of the term.
We learnt how to show anger, shock and humour in
our expressions. We also learnt to use props in
our acting. These skills were great fun to learn
but also helped our confidence in speaking and
listening." |

Fencing
Club
"In fencing we met every Monday from 3:30 to
4:30pm. We learnt lots of things that are
associated with the sport. For example; the on
guard position, the starting and finishing
position and how to hold the sword properly.
Each week one student faced our teacher to show
him what we had learnt. Our teacher let us play
each other to practise our skills and
techniques. We played up to 5 points. It was
great fun." |
Art Club
"Every Wednesday afternoon an art club was held
from 3:30 to 4:30.It was mostly held for the
year 3 and the year 2 kids. We learnt all kinds
of things like how to be more creative with our
drawing. We also learnt about a few artists. We
made a few things like a clay owl, spiders,
masks, pictures of the woods and making cards.
We had a lot of fun making new things." |

Dance Club
"Dancing was held after school on Tuesdays from 3:30 to
4:30pm. In the Dance Club we learnt a lot of new dance
moves. We got together into groups and had to
choreograph a dance routine using the dance moves we had
learnt. At the end of the term we performed our dances
to each other and our parents. We were also handed a
certificate."
